"There's only one vampire Sookie Stackhouse is involved with — at least voluntarily — and that's Bill. But recently he's been a little distant — in another state distant. His sinister and sexy boss Eric has an idea where to find him, and next thing Sookie knows she's off to Jackson, Mississippi, to mingle with the underworld at Club Dead. It's a dangerous little haunt where the elusive vampire society can go to chill out and suck down some Type O — but when Sookie finally finds Bill caught in an act of serious betrayal she's not sure whether to save him, or to sharpen some stakes. The Sookie Stackhouse books are delightful Southern Gothic supernatural mysteries, starring Sookie, the telepathic cocktail waitress, and a cast of increasingly colourful characters, including vampires, werewolves and things that really do go bump in the night."
Here's another "straight to the point" review:
I enjoyed this book (as I have the other three). But as I continue to read these novels a few things have began to bother me more and more. First of all, I get it — Sookie isn't book smart. So please stop mentioning the Word of the Day calendar. Secondly, I know... Bill hasn't proposed (she only mentions it about five times).
Whew — got that out of the way. Despite all of this, I still enjoyed this book. I find that I am more and more drawn to Eric (again, I might be regretting this later) as well as Alcide (wow — Sookie is kind of getting around). I found myself rooting for both of these... uh, men?... rather than Bill. I don't know, I just never really got attached to Bill. The plot was fast moving and captivating and, as I stated, I may or not be in literary love with Eric (and Alcide).
I will, of course, continue to read this series, I just think I'll have to get over the repetition.
