Benny and Shrimp — Katarina Mazetti

From Amazon.com...

"Why is it so impossible to get a relationship between two middle-aged misfits to work? The answer lies in the story of Shrimp, a young widowed librarian with a sharp intellect and a home so tidy that her jam jars are in alphabetical order; Benny, a gentle, overworked milk farmer who fears becoming the village’s Old Bachelor; and an unlikely love that should not be as complicated as it seems."

I think I should mention that I'm going to categorize this book as an adult book and not YA. The protagonists are in their mid thirties and what they are both dealing with I don't think many struggling readers could relate to.

I'm going to pretend that I wrote this review before the last four pages of the book.

There are some of the most amazingly romantic quotes in this book. One of them being, "The funny thing about her is, she thinks she's completely uninteresting. I've no idea if she's ugly or beautiful; it's kind of irrelevant. As long as she's her." There are so many great heart warming quotes like that one that just... I mean really, wow.

The story line and plot were captivating and interesting. Although, it took me a while to realize why the names were weird — it was originally written in Swedish. I was rooting for Benny and Shrimp.

I didn't really connect to Shrimp's character — but Benny's... I fell in love with him right away. I connected to him right from the get go — I understood him. I've never read a character so honest as him before.

Now for the review of the last four pages.

I hated the ending — even though I understand it. I don't want to give anything away. But really — so upset. I kind of felt like I had wasted a part of my life reading it. I know this sounds awful. It was so romantic and honest — I'm depressed. Maybe I missed something — it happened so quick. Hopefully I just read it wrong. Anyone else going through this? It's such a beautifully acclaimed novel, but I just... the last four pages ruined it for me.
