Summary:
Ella and Micha have been best friends since they were kids. But one tragic night shatters their friendship and their lives forever.
Ella used to be a rule-breaker with fiery attitude who wore her heart on her sleeve. But she left everything behind when she went to college and transformed into someone that follows the rules, keeps everything together, and hides all her problems. But now it's summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home.
Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. If Micha tries to tempt the old her back, she knows that it will be hard to resist.
Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella’s skin like no one else can. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. And he’s determined to bring his best friend, and the girl he loves back, no matter what it takes.
Review:
Often we see stories where a young, nice, closed-off girl goes to college and breaks free from that image. She's able to find herself and makes a lot of mistakes along the way. I love that this book broke that mold. Instead of the typical set-up, Ella is going to college and reinventing herself.
She scrubs off her bad-girl image and turns into the smart bookworm with the quiet personality. But she doesn't just want to follow all the rules, she wants to leave her past completely behind.
Back home, she was the wild child with Micha as a best friend. Back when she saw him every single day. But she ran off without a word and he hasn't been able to find her.
Now, after 8 months at school she has no choice but to go back home and face her past. From the start it is obvious that Micha was devastated by Ella's disappearance. He's been searching for her but he never expected to see her driving up to her house after so long away.
Although Ella is determined to keep up her college persona, Micha is determined to knock down those walls and help her realize who she really is. I loved seeing what Ella was like once she arrived home. Yes, she kept fighting her urges but Micha knew exactly what to do in order to make her remember their good times.
Micha was just soooo swoonworthy!! He's that small-town guy with the magnetic personality and bad boy image. Someone most girls would love to know. But he has such a kindness too. It's impossible to not love him. Through their bond, each character is able to heal a bit from what they've gone through.
This story was really great in so many ways. The characters felt so real and relateable. I think that most teenagers want, at some point, to reinvent themselves. But we see through this story that it is sometimes impossible to escape all our problems. And, no matter what, it's the most important to be true to yourself. I'm excited to see where this story goes.
