It's my very first Blogoversary!!
And it almost slipped by me — so despite me not really being here (another Wedding you know!), I wanted to celebrate SOMEHOW!
It's so hard to believe that it's only been a year — blogging has become such an important and integral part of my life! Whether I'm on Twitter (which is a lot lately), succumbing to the calls of my Google Reader, writing my own reviews/posts, or simply reading — my blog is always on my mind. While I don't have a very large audience, the audience I do have is fantastic! I feel like I've met so many great readers in just a year — whether they are fellow bloggers, authors, publicists, or agents.
I'm not really sure how I got started blogging. Last summer I returned to Northern Minnesota for summer break and was unable to find a job. I wasted a good amount of time watching TV and doing other mindless things. Then I remembered a technology class I took two semesters before and slowly this idea of a book blog came into my mind as an outlet for my students. When I started Miss Remmers' Review, I thought I would be the only one out there! I was so completely surprised by the large mass of people who loved the same thing I loved and wrote about it!
I know Sheila and I had this conversation over lunch in Times Square, but who'd have even guessed that less that a year after entering this online community I'd have traveled across the continental US with IRL (in real life) strangers, staying in NYC, and attending Book Expo America (which I had never even heard of before)!?
The past year has been amazing and I can't wait to see what happens next. A year ago I started this blog in preparation for students; in a few months time this blog will no longer be in preparation for but will in fact become a practice for my students. I plan on starting every class with a look at "What's on the Blog" and "What's Going On in the Book Blogosphere." (Better names are coming — any ideas?) I'm so excited!
Stay tuned today for some giveaways (I won't be able to ship them out until Monday though) and thanks for attending my party!
