Mad Dash

My second summer read was a huge disappointment. I found Mad Dash in a small bookstore, the cover caught my eye right away. After reading the back of book I thought, "Hey, this might be good!" Unfortunately, I should have saved my money. Ironic, a book lover judging a book by it's cover. Having never read or even heard Patricia Gaffney before, this was completely a blind buy. The story starts off extremely slow about, in my opinion, a completely selfish woman who is unhappy with her marriage. I was completely unable to relate to the characters. Dash, a middle aged woman, feels like her life is going on without her. Her daughter is off to college and her mom recently passed away — it's a pity party of literature that I would wish on no one. Everything is a cliche about a woman who egotistically believes that the whole world revolves around her. I continued to read it simply waiting for it to "get good"; it never happened.
