There is need. And then there is Fate…

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's"other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon… and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude… or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

    Review:

What can I possibly say about this book that won't just make me just sound like a raving fan-girl? Hmm… not sure if it's possible to NOT sound that way. Janenifer L. Armentrout simply blows my mind, rocks my world, and makes me question my sanity. I feel like I'm transported into another world whenever I pick up one of her books. Half-Blood was more than I could have ever imagined so I was on pins and needles waiting for Pure. It did not disappoint!

I will try to avoid spoilers. I will start by saying that Alex is one of the best, most kick-butt, amazingly genuine heroines of YA literature. Her courage, determination, and strength is beyond comprehension. She has been through so much but she remains herself through it all. She is what really makes this series shine. Although she may have a life and destiny we may not be able to imagine, there is so much about her we can relate to. In many ways, she is just a young girl trying to find her place. But, what makes it even better is that her feisty personality lets everyone know she is not to be messed with.

Then we have Aiden. Oh poor, sweet, hunk of a man Aiden. Aiden can be intense, but Alex is always able to get to his soft side — rather he likes it or not. Seeing his reactions to Alex is always entertaining.

Now, we have Seth. Much, much, more Seth in this book! Seth can be infuriating but he is one of those guys people may act like they hate, but they would miss him if he wasn't around. I think that's something Alex realizes as well. We get much more of a build-up in the relationship between Alex and Seth, which was super nice! I have been a Seth fan since the beginning so I was eager to see where Janenifer went with this relationship.

I gotta say, I cracked up so many times during this book. I seemed to either be laughing, blushing, crying, or gasping during most of it. Yes, there was lots of blushing! Janenifer knows how to write steamy scenes. The connections between Alex and Aiden, and Alex and Seth, were so surprisingly different but they each felt honest and real. That can be a hard task for writers to achieve but Janenifer did this to perfection.

Next, the plot. I won't go into too much detail but I will just say that we get a lot more action and information about the inner-workings of the council. There are a ton of twists and turns going on and unexplained daimon attacks. All of that is combined with the frictions among the Pures and half-bloods. So to summarize, we have more action, drama, suspense, and romance… could we even handle any more?!

Jennifer L. Armentrout is the new hero of young adult novels. She is able to flawlessly create a world that is visually appealing, with compelling characters and a action-packed plot that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Recommended: EVERYONE. You don't have to be a paranormal fan to love this series. If you want something that will rock your world, pick up Half-Blood and Pure.

Jodi Marshall isn't sure how she went from normal teenager to walking disaster. One minute she's in her junior year of high school, spending time with her amazing boyfriend and her best friend. The next she's being stalked by some guy no one seems to know.

After the stranger, Alex, reveals himself, Jodi learns he's not a normal teenager and neither is she. With a kiss that kills and a touch that brings the dead back to life, Jodi discovers she's part of a branch of necromancers born under the 13th sign of the zodiac, Ophiuchus. A branch of necromancers that are descendents of Medusa. A branch of necromancers with poisoned blood writhing in their veins.

Jodi's deadly to the living and even more deadly to the deceased. She has to leave her old, normal life behind before she hurts the people she loves. As if that isn't difficult enough, Jodi discovers she's the chosen one who has to save the rest of her kind from perishing at the hands of Hades. If she can't figure out how to control her power, history will repeat itself, and her race will become extinct.

Both of these titles sound so good! I'm really interested in PODs especially. Both covers are very cool. What do you guys think?

    Review:

Goodness! Just when you think that a series couldn't POSSIBLY get better, it does! Janenifer L. Armentrout has managed to create, not just a book, but an entire world that surrounds these characters where they grow, change, and deal with complex issues they must overcome in order to survive. The Covenant series draws in the reader immediately and I swear there could be a bright pink elephant danging in my house and I wouldn't have noticed.

Poor Alex. Yes, she has a lot to deal with but what better way than to have 2 hot guys to help you along the journey? Seth is infuriating but I love him. I can't help but swoon at his antics and enjoy the intense connection he shares with Alex. On the other hand, Aiden is super strong and devoted. He remains the"strong and silent" one but when Alex needs him there is nothing that can get in his way. It's seriously like having the best of both worlds!

I won't give too much away with the plot but I will say that I never know where one of Janenifer's books will lead me. This one seriously had me gasping by the end. I couldn't believe the turn of events (AT ALL!) and was screaming at the book. Yes, this may mean I'm nuts, but that's just what these books do to me! I actually have to make myself slow down and read them so I won't miss any small details.

Alex has grown leaps and bounds since the first book in this series and it was incredible to see her change as her powers and fate come into focus. Everything with the Council comes to a head and she is forced to deal with even more issues. This book had one of the most outstanding climaxes ever! But now I have to deal with the withdrawals till I can get my hands on Apollyon.

If you haven't started this series, ARE YOU LIVING UNDER A ROCK? DO IT! I promise you will love it and, lucky for you, you have 3 fabulous books in the series already available to read.

    Half-Blood by Janenifer L. Armentrout
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press (October 18th, 2011)
    Reading Level: Young Adult
    Paperback: 281 pages
    Source: Publisher
    Series: Covenant #1
    Rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
Review: Half-Blood completely blew me away! I could not put it down and stayed up till 4am just to finish it. It's one of the rare books I've added to my"must read again" list! I've even went back to certain parts already because they were just that incredible! I already know Half-Blood will be making an appearance in my top 10 of 2011 list.

Where do I even start?! First, this book involves mythology, which some people either love or hate. I usually tried to avoid books with mythology but I have been lovin' some of the new releases! The mythology aspects of this book created the perfect background and really made me interested to see what happens next.

Alex is a half-blood and her and her mother escaped the Covenant (a training type school) in order to live a semi-normal life. But they learn that they can't escape for long and soon Alex ends up back at the Covenant. As a half-blood, she could easily be made into a servant but Alex wants to be a Sentinel and hunt Daimons. In order to have a shot at that, she must catch up to her peers by allowing Aiden (a Pure) to train her. Ahh, Aiden. *mind wonders* Aiden is beyond swoon-worthy. He's a tough fighter with a sensitive side that it seems only Alex gets to see. But a relationship with him would be forbidden. Pures and halfs can not be together, period.

Even with that complication, things get even crazier when a new person comes to the Covenant and Alex learns more about her own fate. I won't spoil what happens, or who shows up, but I will say that by the middle of this book I think I could have ignored a hurricane outside. I was that into this story! This new character was so captivating and alluring… and sexy. ahhh… love it!

What Janenifer was able to create with this story is one that you won't be able to forget. Alex is an amazingly strong heroine. Those can be rare to find in YA novels. But there is no doubt Alex could kick butt. She never lets someone take control of her life and she knows exactly what she wants. Aiden is complex. He's a little older than Alex and much more mature than other Pures his age. He has been through a lot and he doesn't see Alex as less than him just because she's a half-blood. He sees her strength and determination from the start.

Not only did Janenifer deliver some fabulous main characters, but she has woven in multiple minor characters that help build this world. One of my favorites is Caleb. He's Alex's best friend and he was just adorable. As I read this story I felt like I was there with the characters. Janenifer flawlessly described the setting, emotions, and atmosphere in the story. I always say it's rare if a writer is able to describe a romantic moment in a few words and it makes me swoon, but that happened… often! Any time Aiden brushed up against Alex or.well, spoke… I was blushing!

Half-Blood exceeded my expectations on every level. I'm not sure how I will make myself wait for the next book, Pure. Janenifer L. Armentrout created a world that will easily grab readers. If you are a fan of Vampire Academy, and books that will leave you breathless, pick up Half-Blood!

Tour: Character Question with Kyler from FRIGID by J.Lynn

I just read Frigid a few weeks ago and I absolutely loved it!! Kyler was so swoon-worthy and Syd was his perfect match!
Today I have Kyler here for a question as part of the blog tour.

    12. Ever have those superhero fantasies? What superhero do you wish you could be, even for only one day? Why that hero and those powers?
I think I would be Thor. Not only is he a god who wields a hammer and can kick everyone’s ass with his bare hands, he also gets to hook up with Natalie Portman in the movie. I think I’d be okay with that.

You can check out a video of ALL of Kyler's questions he was asked by visiting StuckInBooks tomorrow, 7/26

Frigid by Janenifer. L. Armentrout Published: July 15th, 2013 (Spencer Hill Press) Reading Level: New Adult For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

    Apollyon by Janenifer L. Armentrout
Published: Spencer Hill Press (April 4th 2013)
    Reading Level: Young Adult
    Paperback: 343 pages
    Series: Covenant, #4
    Rating: 5 of 5 stars
    Summary:
Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.

Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.

The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.

Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.

    Review:

Ah, this series continues to amaze. Apollyon is a very intense addition to this series. When it starts Alex is in a haze of emotions. Her connection with Seth has created some tension and it is clouding her thoughts. She isn't the Alex we've come to know and love. But no matter how bad things get, Aiden never gives up on her. He is determined to help Alex get back to herself and fight the connection with Seth even though he seems to be constantly grabbing Alex's attention and focus.

After a while there is a shift and this is where I really got back into the story. Alex was able to better piece together what was going on and her feelings for Aiden come back to the surface. Aiden continues to blow me away. He's so darn… wonderful!!! I loved seeing their relationship grow and seeing how they were able to get through so many obstacles. This book finally allows the couple to just be together for a bit without all the secrecy.

Plus, never fear, this book is full of action. We do get some answers and pieces filled in but there's still so much to figure out.

Apollyon is really a good set up for the final battle that's sure to come in Sentinel. I'm really curious to see what happens and see how Alex deals with this battle. I can't help but love Seth but he's put Alex through so much. I still hope he gets his happy ending.

    Review:

    Wow, wow… wow!
5 glowing, sparkling stars for this one!

I can't even fully explain how I feel about this book. I had been waiting for it for so long and then today it shows up at my door. I completely spent my ENTIRE Saturday devouring every… single… word!

I'm not sure if I've ever read a book that made me feel so many different emotions at once. Sadness, anxiety, excitement, helplessness, and so many more. From one page to the next I had no idea what would happen. The crazy part was imagining myself in a situation like Eva was in. What would happen if a virus was killing everyone? I seriously doubt I would be as strong as she was.

Eva was able to bring people together and fight for what she wanted. She was smart, caring, and determined. She took a horrible situation and tried to find a glimmer of hope. I honestly couldn't imagine any character being more perfect for this story. To her, the hope Eva was able to hold on to ended up being David. OMG, David. I loved how their relationship bloomed. It wasn't"instant love" which is so common in books these days. They lived with several others in their little world and their friendship gradually progressed into something more.

And, speaking of their world, I absolutely adored every character Michelle introduces us to. This book isn't just about a romance, or two people fighting some battle. This book allows us to get to know several, amazing, diverse characters who all grab your heart (even a few who have attitude issues). They all held such an important place in the story.
I had tears in my eyes so many times in this story because I really felt the connection these characters shared. They were truly like a family.

Now for the plot. Holy crap! First, I think somewhere in all of us we worry about something like this happening. A virus takes over and then what happens? Well, in this world, people are selected to move into PODs. These PODs are to be used for a period of time till the virus is no longer a threat. Sounds simple enough, but so much goes into pulling that off. We get to see into that world and what it would take to remove people from a harsh environment and place them somewhere a virus can't reach. Michelle did a flippin' fantastic job giving us each piece of this puzzle. We know each step Eva has to take and get a clear picture of what POD life would be like.

I won't go into details about what happens after they are removed from the POD but O-M-G! The action never stops.

This book seriously needs to be a movie. I could picture every detail and already see it playing out on screen. PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

I am now stalking Michelle to get updates on everything she writes. I recommend this book to EVERYONE! Beware of loss of sleep while reading it, and nightmares after it is over.

  • Interview & Giveway: PODs by Michelle Pickett

Interview & Giveway: PODs by Michelle Pickett

Michelle Pickett is joining me today for an interview discussing her book PODs. PODs is, by far, one of my favorite books from this year. I highly recommend reading it!

Thank you for hosting me on your blog today! I’m so happy to be here.
    1. If the world in PODs were true, how would you handle life living in a POD?

Wow, starting right off with the hard questions. Living in the PODs would be difficult, obviously. I think I would immerse myself in my writing and use it as an escape. I’d create other worlds to visit and let my mind wander away from the POD life/world. That would probably be the only way I’d survive being locked in one place for a year.

    2. What would you miss the most?

Other than the obvious like family and friends I’d miss Reese’s peanut butter cups and being able to take my laptop outside to write while listening to the birds.

    3. Who would you want in the POD with you?

That’s a hard question because the answer should be that I’d want everyone with me. Every life is worth saving. But, since the PODs only hold a small number of people I would be selfish and take my family.

    4. What items would you want with you?

I would take my laptop, Kindle, camera and journal.

    5. If you had a choice, would you stay in the POD or try to live life outside of it?

Well, I have an unfair advantage when it comes to this question. I know what happens in book two, The Infected. So knowing what I know from the sequel determines my answer to this question. But I’m not giving any spoilers so I’ll just have to say… my lips are sealed on this one.

Thank you again for hosting me on your blog. I enjoyed answering your interview questions.

I love hearing from readers. If you have any questions or comments about the book, send me an email. I’d love to hear from you!
