  • Read-A-Thon Update 1

    Day One of the Read-A-Thon

Well, I had planned on listening to "Shopaholic Ties the Knot" the entire ride home from Bismarck (five hours), but an hour in the CD started skipping and no matter what I did it wouldn't work. So I didn't really get into the read-a-thon until I got home — then, I promise, all I did was listen (and upload pictures to Facebook, and clean, and. . well you get the idea). I've just now finished it but am too tired to write the review — look for it tomorrow.:)

Tomorrow, while I do have a hefty little to do list, I would like to conquer either Shiver, Dead as a Doornail, or To Kill a Mockingbird.
How is everyone else doing? Meeting those goals?

    Once Upon A Read-A-Thon

In case you've missed the button on my right sidebar, there's a Read-A-Thon starting tomorrow! I'm really excited to participate since I missed out on Bloggiesta and the last major Read-A-Thon. I'll be driving home from Bismarck tomorrow so the first five hours will be spent with an audio book — "Shopaholic Ties the Knot." After that, we'll see what happens!

As for goals, I'd like to finish:

    1. "Shopaholic Ties the Knot"
    2. "Dead as a Doornail"
    3. "O, Juliet"
    4. "Shiver"
    5. "To Kill a Mockingbird"
    6. "Emma and the Vampires"

I really encourage everyone who is able to join in the fun! Summer is half way over and now is the perfect time to be "ubber" productive. I'm really looking forward to this because starting this week I'll be on (yet another) vacation for two weeks before moving in to my apartment and classroom, my best friend's wedding, and the beginning of school. Whoo! One day at a time right?

Let me know if you're participating in the fun and good luck to everyone!

  • The Kick Off of Champions

    The Kick Off of Champions

Hey Readathoners! Look at you early birds coming in on the first Mini Challenge of the Dewey Readathon. You have probably been up and reading for while now and need a little mini challenge break to get the blood flowing again.

In this challenge we would like you to write a post on your blogs about your kick off strategy. What have you surrounded yourself with for these early hours of the challenge besides your books? Is there a coffee thermos, lucky book mark, snacks, pillow... We want to know how you have prepared so you do not have to leave your cozy reading space (by the way — we'd like to know what is too... (are you still in bed, a chair, the couch...)

Have fun with this — you can take pictures... add a video — whatever you want for your kick off post! I am excited to go and see what each of you come up with!:)

Write your post on your blog and then come back and link to your post here using McKLinky. This challenge is 3 hours long and after it ends at 11am, a winner will be chosen by using Random.org and they will be sent by email a $15 Amazon Gift Card.

    Good Luck Readathon Readers!!!

  • Read-A-Thon: April 2010

    Read-A-Thon: April 2010

At the very last minute, I've decided to partake in the Read-a-thon tomorrow! Student teaching has consumed a lot of my life recently and I want to take this opportunity to reconnect with the blogosphere!

I won't be able to devote an entire 24 hours to the challenge as I'm on duty this weekend and have a 2am round and a massive migraine. So my plan is to begin reading at 10am until noon. T has his first home baseball game that I'm really excited about. I plan on resuming reading at 4pm and continue on until 7pm. I then am on duty until 2am so my reading will depend on what my residents want to do. My goal is to read at least 10 hours tomorrow. I know this seems little compared to others who will be reading 24, but this is really all I can devote. I've been ill all week and I need my energy for next week as I have FOUR interviews — so I need to use this weekend to catch up on sleep.

I NEED to finish "All Quiet on the Western Front." I also plan on reading "The Princess and the Frog," "Food Rules," and "Hex Hall." From there... I'm winging it.

As for fuel, I've stocked up on carrots, spinach, pineapple (first time I'll be chopping up one myself!), bananas, and strawberries! What better combination to go with Pollan's "Food Rules"?

Check back early tomorrow as I'm hosting a kick off challenge! Good luck everybody and Happy Reading!
