The Best Reader:
my last 20

  • My Last 20 Books 12.31.10

It may be a bit ironic that this "Last 20" post will be my last "Last 20" post for 2010. Below are my posts for 2010. Keeping track of what I'm reading and where I got the books from has become an important aspect of reflection for me. For instance, if you look at my prior "Last 20" posts, you'll notice I read tons of library books, but this time I've only read two. I think this is because of my over-loaded shelves from BEA 2010 and the books that are a product of my spending spree. In August I moved to Sioux Falls, SD, and have sought out two of the best local used book stores and have visited regularly — whereas before this move there wasn't a book store for 100 miles.

My goal for 2011 is to read more of my own books and to not spend so much money on books. It isn't only the money, it's the space. At this point my living room looks like it has been taken over by books, and while I love it, my fiance gets a bit stressed out. It won't hurt me to cut back a little, I've got loads to read.

Plus, when I "empty" these shelves maybe I can get a Nook!:)
What about you? Have you noticed any reading trends?

You can definitely tell when my summer Audiobook Adventure started! I'm also fully utilizing the online galley resources that I am SO entirely thankful for! But, unfortunately, I haven't read a SINGLE book that I've bought recently. This makes me sad because my goal for 2011 was to read my own books. But then I got a Nook and all of these resources became available to me. Oh well, life goes on. The good thing is that I haven't bought a lot of books recently either. So it's kind of like a stale mate right?

What about YOUR last 20? Where do your books come from that you actually get around to reading?

I've been on a buying spree lately haven't I... I really need to either read my own books (already bought), get back in the habit of relying on my library, or crack down on review books.

What about you? Have you noticed any reading trends?

    3. My Last 20 Books 4.30.10

      1/20 — School Book

The books in bold were also listed on the previous "Last 20" post.

When looking at the numbers, it's obvious where my "review book" reading slump was. I'm glad I'm starting to get out of it. I hope to have this list rejuvenated here in a month or so, when I'll hopefully have more time to read (yay, summer!).

    4. My Last 20 Books 2.26.10

It's been a while since I've done this — so let's have it it. The last twenty books I read have come from:
      1. The Things That Keep Us Here — Review Copy
      2. The Hunger Games — Library
      3. Lucifer Rising — Review Copy

      1/20 — I won
      5/20 — Library
      14/20 — Review Copy

I was a little bit surprised at the high number of Review books I've read. Recently I've been shaking up review copies with library books, whereas last December I was definitely reading all review copies. But this could have something to do with my course load too — last semester I had an English heavy course load and was reading academically all the time and read only Review copies because of my 'obligation' (oh, if only I felt 'obligated' to eat ice cream!). Now with a more education focus, my reading load has significantly decreased and I find that I have more time to read recreationally (which is always a good thing).

    5. My Last 20 Books 2.8.12

      My Last 20 Books 2.8.12

In true "Last 20" fashion — it has been forever since my last post (August 2011) . This year I hope to keep better track because it is kind of fun to see where my books come from as a whole.

      1. Double — NetGalley
      2. Dead to You — ARC
      3. Fever — ARC
      4. Escaping Titanic — NetGalley
      5. Fallen in Love — NetGalley
      6. Passion — Library
      7. A Million Suns — ARC
      8. Torment — Own (Library Audio)
      9. Cinder — NetGalley
      10. The Night Circus — Library
      11. Replication: The Jason Project — NetGalley
      12. Silence — Library
      13. Crossed — Own
      14. Between Shades of Gray — Library
      15. Pandemonium — ARC
      16. The Pledge — NetGalley
      17. Ashfall — NetGalley
      18. Crescendo — Own (Library Audio)
      19. Fallen — Own (Library Audio)
      20. The Awakening — Own (Library Audio)
      7/20 NetGalley 4/20 (1/5) ARC from Publisher 5/20 (1/4) Own 8/20 (2/5) Library
I know that my numbers don't match up perfectly; this is due to the fact that I own quite a few of the books but I received the audio books from the library. I'm pretty happy with these numbers; I feel like for the most part the last twenty books I've read have been pretty well rounded in regards to where I received them from. From August (when I hadn't read a single books that I owned), I'm especially proud that a fourth of what I've read/listened to came from my own shelves. I think this goes without saying but — THANK YOU NETGALLEY!!!:)
For my next 20 books I hope to see numbers like these — well rounded and opportunistic!
Where have your last twenty books come from? It's a great way to reflect on your "numbers" if you will and if you're a stat person like me it's always fun to look at reading trends. If you do your own post, let me know so I can visit and see your reading trends!
