Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver Publisher: HarperTeen (February 28th, 2012) Reading Level: Young Adult Hardback: 375 pages Source: ARC from Publisher Series: Delirium #2 Rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’m pushing aside the memory of my nightmare, pushing aside thoughts of Alex, pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school, push, push, push, like Raven taught me to do. The old life is dead. But the old Lena is dead too. I buried her. I left her beyond a fence, behind a wall of smoke and flame. Lauren Oliver delivers an electrifying follow-up to her acclaimed New York Times bestseller, Delirium. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, forbidden romance, and the sparks of a revolution about to ignite.
Review: SPOILERS!! Pandemonium may be just one of the many dystopian/post-apocalyptic novels we have seen recently; however, it will always stick out to me simply because of the complexity of Lauren Oliver's writing.
I admit, it took me a while to get into the groove of this book. The chapters alternate between"now" and"then" and I had a hard time figuring out when was now and what was then. Yes, slightly confusing. About mid-way into the story I felt more comfortable with that structure. It gave us a glimpse of what Lena is doing now, compared to where she was once she first got into the Wilds. Lena"then" was more weak, a bit whiny, and sort of got on my nerves. Then again, she is dealing with the fact that Alex is not with her so I tried to understand her struggles to fit into this foreign world.
If anything, Lena's time in the Wilds showed her exactly what she needed to survive. She learned how people take care of each other and the true dangers of living away from everything she knew.
The"now" part of the story takes place months later with Lena in New York. I won't go into a lot of details of this section because it was part of the surprise of the book. I was fascinated reading what was going on and how Lena was involved. But I will say that this is the part of the story where the love-triangle begins and we meet Julian.
Lena and Julian do have a very unlikely connection and I liked that a lot. I felt Julian was a wonderful character to add to this story; but, I have a difficult time with this particular relationship. Part of the enjoyment of Delirum was the honest, true love story between Lena and Alex. I feel that is a bit tainted now. This made me become irritated towards Lena during the end of this book and question her feelings. Plus, the cliffhanger didn't help. I like to have a book end during a good place where I can feel good about what I just read. I didn't really feel that way at the end of Pandemonium.
Although I didn't like this sequel nearly as much as Delirium, Lauren's writing still continues to amaze me. Each new plot line or setting is beautifully crafted and it really transports the reader into the story.

Talk about a book you can't wait to get your hands on! When I finished "Delirium " (just over a year ago) I couldn't wait to read "Pandemonium" to find out what would happen to Lena and Alex. "Pandemonium" (do you think Lauren purposefully makes her titles hard to spell?) begins with Lena as a working part of the resistance and then goes between the "then" and the "now." At first I found this a bit confusing because I didn't really care about the "then" but as the story progressed I found myself addicted to both story veins.
New characters are introduced and new twists in "Pandemonium." I definitely believed in the resistance and their characters and loved the Hansel and Gretal bread crumbs that Oliver left for readers to find. I will say I'm not so sure about this Julian character. It's not that I disliked him, but more that I just didn't believe him. And I don't think I believed this particular Lena as well. Not that this bothered me throughout the novel because the plot was amazing on its own, but I do think it's worth mentioning (without being too specific).
I missed Alex. I missed his vision and his passion, but I guess it's a sense of irony that Lena (the believer in the society) makes it to the resistance and Alex... well, you know. I don't want to say anything further in case of a mistaken spoiler from "Delirium." But I will say that this book did not suffer from sophomore-itis (as my students currently are). The plot was just as fast paced and riveting and, despite the character changes and minor flaws, I still loved the characters. The big ending was jaw-dropping in more than one sense (albeit a bit predictable) and I am officially (once again) anxiously awaiting the third novel.
How does Lauren Oliver do this to me?!

"This will be a novel that I will insist my students read and a novel that I continue to rave about online, in school, and with friends and family." — Miss Remmers
From Amazon.com...
"What if you had only one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life?
Samantha Kingston has it all: the world's most crush-worthy boyfriend, three amazing best friends, and first pick of everything at Thomas Jefferson High—from the best table in the cafeteria to the choicest parking spot. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life. Instead, it turns out to be her last.
Then she gets a second chance. Seven chances, in fact. Reliving her last day during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death—and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing."
This is a book I'd been debating over purchasing since it came out. Every time I'd go into a bookstore I would see it and it would call to me in stereotypical fashion: "Reagan, buy me! Buy me!" Then I would think to myself, "Self, you came in here with a direct purpose to purchase to buy "X" book. If you walk out of here with "Before I Fall" you are a complete failure." Failure at what? I'm not really sure... it was my self conscious speaking to me and it has a tendency to be crazy.
So anyway, you can imagine how utterly surprised and excited I was first to MEET Lauren Oliver and then to find out that along with signing copies of "Delirium" Lauren was also signing copies of "Before I Fall." If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I have more than once claimed that my "pride and joy" of BEA was getting a signed copy of "Before I Fall." This is also the only novel I had signed directly to me and not to my students.
Here's the kicker: I hadn't even read the novel yet.
Have my feeling changed at all towards this book?
Absolutely. Before I was just able to rave about how great Lauren is and how much I love the premise, now I can tell absolutely everyone I know how much I love this book — and I have. I started out with Twitter:
Tweets via @Miss Remmers:
I'm in the mall reading Before I Fall and I may burst into tears at any moment
"You're worse than the hot lunch." This is the most amazing book! @oliverbooks
@mindfulmusings oh my goodness it's amazing! I can't put it down but I so have to use the restroom!
Before I Fall is one of the most amazing books ever. I will definitely be purchasing more copies for my classroom. Review soon @OliverBooks
Then I of course called Travis, Dan, my mom, my dad, and I even called my best friend and left a message since she's out of the country on her honeymoon! And now I'll tell all of you.
This book, if you can't already tell, was amazing. When Lauren was talking about her book at TAC she mentioned that it was hard to write a character she didn't like. Lauren succeeded in this endeavor. I hated Sam, not at first but towards the middle when I realized how mean she really was. In the end she won me over (obviously), but it was so refreshing to meet a protagonist that I did not like.
Each of the characters had their own story and voice — another amazing aspect of the novel. Each character was different and I liked and disliked them each for their own purpose and reason. Kent, however, was by far my most favorite character of the week (and that's saying a lot as that week I read "Dead Until Dark," "Sea," and "Hush Hush.") And quite possibly of the entire summer! My heart ached and broke for Kent throughout this novel. I was rooting for him the entire time. The descriptions of all of the characters were fantastic, but it was Kent (in my opinion) whose description was so fantastically pure and lovable. In the end, it was Kent that made this story (for me).
The plot, along with characterization, was another amazing part of this novel. The premise of this story was so strong and real — my ninth graders are going to devour this book. I loved the theme of love, friendship, suicide, and death. The theme of suicide is something very near and dear to my heart, as an RA for three years I dealt with at least eleven severely depressed young college students who either attempted suicide or who were talking about suicide (thankfully, they all have began counseling and are moving in the right direction). But that doesn't mean everyone at that college is safe, or at any college. It takes a powerful novel, much like "Thirteen Reasons Why," to bring up the tender issue of suicide so emotionally correct.
This will be a novel that I purchase a couple more copies for my classroom (this beloved copy will stay at home on my beloved bookshelf). A novel that I will insist my students read and a novel that I continue to rave about online, in school, and with friends and family.
It's that time of year, Twitter and my GR is buzzing with the excitement of another year gone and another year here. With all the upcoming Reading Challenges and Goals for the new year, I can't help but feel motivated and ready (whether my classroom is or isn't is another question). Yesterday I looked at all the books I read and came up with my top ten favorites. Feeling a little extra motivated I even made a video — beware: it is my first video, and while I'm extremely proud of it, it isn't perfect.
Books mentioned:
10. Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready 9. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater 8. Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick 7. Beastly by Alex Flinn 6. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver 5. Matched by Allie Condie 4. I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore 3. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher 2. Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers 1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Colli ns
After making that list I still felt like something was missing, like that list alone didn't sum up 2010. I continued to think about it this morning and then it hit me: it isn't always the books that mean the most, sometimes it's the authors. I read 65 books in 2010 and the above are my favorite reads, but what about my favorite authors? The authors who were crazy kind, excited to talk to me, and who were full enthusiasm?
Here are my top authors of 2010:
Lauren Oliver — Besides being an awesome writer, you were so approachable at BEA and I was so impressed when you remembered my name when you say me randomly walking around!
Shannon Delany — You single-handedly were the reason Sheila and I made it to the Author Event at BEA where I met so many great women! You were so friendly, understanding, and patient with my back and forth Twittering to find where you all were. I so appreciate everything you did and can't wait for your second book.
Courtney Summers — Your books never cease to amaze me, but I'll never forget your Author Interview with my struggling readers (and they never will either). You really demonstrated to my students that authors are people too — no matter how famous! Thank you!
Denise Jaden — Girl, "Losing Faith" rocked my socks off but you are just as outstanding (if not more!). You have such an outreach to readers and bloggers, I am so impressed!
Violet Haberdasher — I loved "Knightley Academy" and the main reason I bought it at BEA was because of how approachable you are! You were so friendly and excited to be at the NYC library! I can't wait for book two!
Simone Elkeles — I haven't even read one of your books (yet), although I do have all of them on my bookshelves and in my classroom. Your books are books that I don't have to pitch to students — they pick them up, love the cover, love the synopsis, and come to me later saying "I loved this novel! Give me another one like it!" At BEA you were so friendly and even joked about me actually being a teacher because of my size (true story, my students think the same thing!). You gave me two signed posters and they were the first posters up in my classroom. My students can't believe I met you! Thank you so much for giving a first year teacher some credibility!
Shari Maurer — I still need to read your book (I know, I'm behind), but I love your enthusiasm for reading and for struggling readers! I will never forget at BEA how willing you were to talk to me about my students (and I hadn't even met them yet!). Thanks!
Karen Essex — I read a review of "Dracula in Love" on a blog and commented that I really wanted to read your novel but had gone to BN and it was $25, within a half an hour later you had emailed me and asked if I'd like a copy for review. It was one of those moments that my students said, "That didn't just happen, did it?" And it did. Thank you for being so awesome!
Simmone Howell — My first Australian author! I am so excited to read your books in the near future! Your enthusiasm for reading and for students means a lot to me!

I had starred this post awhile ago — like in April at Good Books and Good Wine and have been meaning to put together a post. I can now cross this off my endless To Do list!
I did okay (read 24/100) — but I'd like to have done much better. I look forward to reevaluating where I stand later on in the year!

Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kick ass heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?
Recently, the books that I've really been enjoying have more sensitive male character's (like "Fever"'s Linden and "A Million Suns"'s Elder) and stronger heroines. I relate this primarily to my love for Mr. Darcy.:)
I reviewed "Dead to You" by Lisa McMann, "Fever" by Lauren DeStefano, and "Pandemonium" by Lauren Oliver. I also reminded readers to look into BBRAW (as it's two weeks away!). If you haven't heard word of BBRAW yet — make sure to check it out! It should be a LOT of fun and the more the participants the better!:)

2011 is off to a great start at Miss Remmers' Review! I read nine books this month and wrote over 30 posts. I not only took on all forms of bullying, but also admitted to being a stuck up snob and to being addicted to technology. I found out that I will making an appearance in Denise Jaden's next novel (author of "Losing Faith "), and that I was expecting! Soon after that particular discovery — I delivered! Talk about an exciting month! Books Read:
How to Say Goodbye in Robot
When the Stars Go Blue
Cryer's Cross
Nocturne
Outside In
Inside Out
Beasts and BFF's

Favorite January 2011 Read
My favorite January read was hands down DELIRIUM by Lauren Oliver (released TODAY!) — but close behind were WAKE by Lisa McMann, CRYER'S CROSS by Lisa McMann, and NOCTURNE by Syrie James. If you haven't read Oliver, McMann, or James yet you definitely need to make a goal of it for February! Fantastic reads!
1. Was there any certain moment you had as a teen that you feel changed your life? -- Yes. When I was 18, I made a decision to leave Tennessee and go to college in Washington, D.C. I would be leaving behind everything I knew and didn't have any money at all. I went in to see the school guidance counselor and she told me that I would probably fail if I went to DC, so I might as well stay at the local community college. That's when I made the decision that I was never going to let anyone tell me how to live my life or hold me back. 2. If you could give your 15 year old self one piece of advice, what would it be?
-- Eat better! I didn't know much about nutrition or healthy food choices until college. 3. Looking back, is there something you would have changed about your teen years?
-- I wouldn't have spent so much time pining over the wrong guys, especially the one that hooked up with me and then went and hooked up with a friend of mine. I should've been open to dating other people.
4. What do you feel are the biggest challenges teen face today, compared to what we experienced a few years ago? I think teens today are under pressure to do a lot more homework than in the past. Teens are challenged to work harder than ever before. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I wish that teens had time to have lots of fun and make mistakes and do crazy things. You don't only learn from reading books. You learn from life experiences. I think that adults in America work crazy hours and feel stressed a lot, and if we continue down this path of Doing Way Too Much Stuff and Working Too Much, it will only get tougher on our kids.

Amazon | Barnes & Noble | IndieBound Other Tour Stops TodayMonday, November 5th As You Were Charlee Vale The Cozy Reader Royal Reviews Falling For YA Cynsations—Cynthia Leitich Smith
As expected, yesterday was a fantastic day! Sheila and I spent some time in the Blogosphere before we headed to the Javits Center to check it out and plan our route.
Then we went and found an "off the beaten trail" Mexican restaurant in Times Square to have a nice quiet sit down meal.
We returned to the hotel and relaxed a bit before going to the Strand Bookstore which is known for it's 18 mile long bookshelves. The advertisement doesn't give the bookstore justice. Wall to wall and ceiling to floor — there are books everywhere! It was fantastic, but after walking 40 blocks it would have been nice to have a place to sit and relax. But finding none we we stopped for frozen yogurt before heading to the Jefferson Marketplace Public Library.
While approaching the library I looked to Sheila and said "Look at that castle! Wouldn't it be great if that was the library!" And it was! It was a magnificent library except for the fact that there were no bathrooms for adults. There was one that you could use if you had a child, but despite Sheila's protests, I could not pretend to be an kid.
At the TAC I met some fantastic authors, the first of which was Lauren Oliver! Ooo how I loved her (and I haven't even read her book yet)! (Before I Fall)
Then I met Simone Elkeles (who couldn't believe I was a teacher!). This woman is hilarious! (Perfect Chemistry)
Then I met Kody Keplinger the amazing 18 year old author of DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend).
And Courtney Sheinmel — author of Positively!
Barry Lyga (Goth Girl Rising). This guy cracks me up! He's like the Dane Cook of authors!
Violet Haberdasher, author of Knightley Academy! This looks like a fantastic book! It's the only one I bought there! (I'm quite proud... of the fact I only bought one.)
For answering a question I won a prize pack: "Sea," "Perfect Chemistry," "Fixing Delilah Hannaford," and "The DUFF." But Courtney generously donated a copy of "Positively" as well! And then I bought (using my Educator discount) "Knightley Academy."
On our way home, Sheila and I stopped at Olive Garden for dinner. After a fantastic meal we were faced with a new dilemma: neither of us have ever hailed a taxi! So we did what any other Minnesotans would do and asked the hostess. This hostess was so polite... she even showed us HOW!
Today I'm participating in two memes — the Book Bloggers Hop, hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books & Follow My Book Blog Friday, hosted at Parajunkee's View. I am also putting up my weekly recap... get it? "Follow My Hop Recap?" If you're a new follower, please leave me a link to your blog in the comments below so that I can return the hello! This week's question from the Hop: "Tell us about one of your posts from this week and give us a link so we can read it (review or otherwise)!
This week I started a feature called "Back to the Basics" where I answer any questions blogger may have (that I am able to answer). This week we talked about the Follow Me Friday and the Blog Hop and how to appropriately comment while making it easier for people to find your blog and return the blog and comment love. Read the post to find out more. This week's question from Follow Me Friday:
What is your favorite romance hero-type? Stereotype wise. Do you like the strong silent type or the brute macho man?
I'm definitely drawn to the witty, intelligent, strong, and silent type rather than the brute macho man. Fictional men like Clark Kent and Mr. Darcy are intoxicating to me. Men who can be stubborn and infuriating, but caring and even bookish (gasp!) totally win me over. But at the same time I am a complete sucker for the hilarious side kick (Ron Weasley all the way). I guess I'm multi-faceted? In real life, my fiance D is definitely not infuriating (good thing) and, of the two of us, I'm definitely the stubborn one. D definitely fits the funny, care-free character who provides endless conversation and partakes in witty banter when I feel the need. He also feeds me... which is a big deal (yes, I'm marrying a very good cook).

Last Holiday Season I asked for reviews for Christmas and I had a fantastic turn out. This year I'll be doing the same thing (with an updated button, although I might change it). I haven't done it in months, but I really need to get back in the habit of posting guest reviews on a weekly basis. If you're new to Miss Remmers' Review and don't know what a "Guest Review" is, please see this post.
My mission since transitioning from student to student teacher to (finally) classroom dictator... um, I mean loved teacher... has not changed. I love receiving books for review and connecting with bloggers, readers, teachers, publicists, etc, but the purpose of this blog is to supply my students with an abundance of reviews to spark their interests in reading. I can't do this alone.
I know this is a busy season for everyone and there are so many fantastic projects, challenges, etc going on. It doesn't take a lot to become a Guest Reviewer.
Let's break it down (now):
1. Think of your favorite YA book that you think struggling readers would devour. 2. Look at my left side bar. Is it listed? If yes, please email me and I'll add your review link to the bottom of the post. If no, fill out the form with a link to your review.
It is basically that easy. Of course, in order to be entered in the contest it does have to be a NEW review to this blog. But basically, if you're a book blogger, it's as simple as copying and pasting the review link from your blog into the form.
Did I say contest? OH I DID!
Submit more than five reviews and be entered to win the GRANDPRIZE: an ARC of Lauren Oliver's "Delirium"
Submit less than five reviews and be entered to win any of the following prizes:
an ARC of "In the Arms of Mr. Darcy" by Sharon Lathan
an ARC of "I'd Know You Anywhere" by Laura Lippman
an ARC of "Take a Chance on Me" by Jill Mansell
an ARC of "HERO: For One Kid, the Time is Now" by Mike Lupica
an ARC of "Dreaming in Chinese" by Deborah Fallows
an ARC of "Emma and Vampires" by Wayne Josephson
"Sea Change"
This contest will go until January 3rd. If you'd like your name added to this post — please send in a review!
I better preface this post by saying I mean no disrespect to any other I met at BEA. I'm just thinking out loud.
At BEA I met tons of fantastic authors who have written wonderful books. I purchased books, I was given books, I had books signed, I shook the hands of these authors, and I even took some pictures. 99% of my encounters were fantastic memories that I will never forget.
There were authors I had heard of, never met, and hadn't read their books — like Lauren Oliver, author of "Before I Fall." I absolutely gushed about her to everyone about how great she was and how much I loved her book. But even without meeting her, I would have purchased this book (and had been meaning to forever).
Then there were authors like Violet Haberdasher (author of "Knightley Academy") and Shannon Delaney (author of "13 to Life) who I had never heard of (book or author).
Now "Knightley Academy" sounded like an interesting read, but I probably would have waited to purchase it in paperback if I hadn't met Violet. Before even meeting her, I listened to her explain her book at TAC. She did such a fantastic job appealing to her diverse audience and getting even those out of the loop (like me) interested in the book. I knew right away I would have to purchase it. I secured my copy and waited in line for her to sign it; when it was my turn I was greeted by this HUGE smile and a "Oh you bought my book!" in the most adorable accent ever. Because there was no one behind me I was able to talk to Violet for a short amount of time. This girl is fantastic! Her story of moving to London is so interesting and captivating (I MAY have been distracted by the accent once or twice — what can I say? I'm from the Midwest). I instantly knew that I made the right choice in purchasing this read.
The same relative story goes for Shannon Delaney — "13 to Life" looked good but I could have waited to read it. After meeting her and seeing how absolutely friendly she is I had no choice but to pre-order two copies!
Then there was a specific author who I had heard of (author and book) and was really looking forward to reading this particular book; it was a book I had been wanting for a long time and was just jumping up and down when I was given a copy. When I went up to speak to this author, just for a moment, she barely looked at me and hardly acknowledged me. I introduced myself and told her I was a new teacher and was really excited to read her book and put it on my shelves. She smiled and said "Oh that's great" and began a conversation with another author sitting next to her. I didn't take offense, there was a lot going on after all. I just (extremely awkwardly) was like "Oh, okay" and turned to walk away.
I was still excited to read this book and have read the book. I enjoyed the book and the book will still go on my shelves come fall.
But... this author's social skills (or lack there of) could have really deterred me from reading her book if I hadn't built up this huge excitement before meeting her. The book was a good read, but I think I would have loved it even more if meeting the author was a more pleasant experience. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't approached this author at all and lived in ignorance — loving her book for what it was rather than what my experience with the author was not.
The purpose of this long-winded post: What do you guys think? Is it important for authors to be approachable and friendly? Or am I just a small town girl looking for a smiling face amongst the masses of NYC? If you have had a less than fantastic experience with an author, did you let it affect your view of their book? How much of a role does the author's personality and approachability play in your experience with a read?
"Fantastically timed writing along with perfectly developed characters and a seamlessly exciting plot makes "Delirium" an instant favorite and a story not likely forgotten anytime soon." — Miss Remmers
From Barnes and Noble...
"Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't."
Book Trailer: Much like "Before I Fall, " this was a book I had been itching to read. The premise and beautiful cover were eye catching already, but nothing, not even my love for "Before I Fall," prepared me for "Delirium."
Written fantastically well with characters who were so real to me that even when I took a reading break for much needed groceries I found myself thinking back to them.
I laughed out loud, I blushed, I gasped, and I cried while reading "Delirium" — no other book has had me so emotionally invested in it. Lena was fantastic character whose transformation was flawless from government follower to all out rule-breaking rebel. But it was Alex who tugged at my heart in every way. I could see him, I could feel him, I could hear him — I knew him in every way. Besides the amazing plot, it is Alex's return that I am anxiously awaiting with the next installment of this series.
Just as strong as the characters, the plot of "Delirium" was excellently executed. Really, if there was one thing that I could say in regards to the plot that I kept coming back to was its' timing. Timing. It's not something that I think about when reading very often and it's not an element of a book like plot, characters, etc. But this novel demonstrates how vital timing is to a novel. Excuse me while I go teacher for a moment: the exposition of the novel "hooked" me from the first page but didn't drag on, in fact it blended perfectly with the complication of the novel. From there on the rising action was flawlessly constant and the intensity and excitement didn't recede until the book was closed. Every time I thought I knew where the story was headed there would be a new twist, or complication, introduced that would have me gasping out loud (true story). These twists were perfectly timed and executed.
One last thing... the ending. Oh. My. Gosh. I was reading so fast, as if I were watching it unfold or even living it. This book will make a fantastic movie someday. Fantastically timed writing along with perfectly developed characters and a seamlessly exciting plot makes "Delirium" an instant favorite and a story not likely forgotten anytime soon.

Last year in what seemed like a span of weeks I read five fantastic novels that just happened to be the first of a series: "Across the Universe, " "Delirium, " "The Goddess Test, " "Wither, " and "Matched. " These five novels absolutely changed my reading life. With each of these books I was positively awe-struck.
"I read this book almost in its entirety in one day... but it feels like I've known these characters for months, years even! The journey I just got back from after reading "Wither" was an experience that every bibliophile looks forward to with every book they open. "Wither" may not fulfill this experience for everyone — but it sure did for me."
"I hurt with the emotion I felt, I hurt because I couldn't stop willing the plot on, my heart hurt out of love for the characters, and my adrenaline never slowed the last 100 pages. This book caused me physical pain I loved it so much."
"Fantastically timed writing along with perfectly developed characters and a seamlessly exciting plot makes "Delirium" an instant favorite and a story not likely forgotten anytime soon."
"'Across the Universe' was woven so intricately and beautifully that this plot driven novel is definitely on my 'OMG! I need the next book!' list."
"I don't know about you, but during the duration of reading this book I wrote entirely in cursive. What an inspiring concept!" So you can only imagine how excited I am for their sequels to be released. "Crossed" (out last week) was in my fingertips at BEA and I had actually started reading while in line for other books but unfortunately it was not to be finished. I pre-ordered it through Amazon about a month ago (and I won't make that mistake again); it arrived on Friday and I am so excited to continue the story.
Today I received in the mail at school a copy of "A Million Suns" by Beth Revis (Jan 2012) from the publisher and am completely stoked! Last week I received a copy "Pandemonium" by Lauren Oliver (March 2012) from the publisher and am currently only about 100 pages in — but this four day weekend will completely change the game around.
Please ignore my yellow bookmark. And to finish things off I just found out that "Goddess Interrupted" will be released on NetGalley a few months before the release (March 2012). If you're getting the impression that I am on a book high — you'd be completely underestimating my excitement. My "in my mailbox" has never EVER been so exciting before! I'm a relatively small-town blogger and probably only receive one book a month from publishers (if that). But this post is not an "IMM" (expect a vlog!!), there is a reason these books in particular are crossing my doorstep. At school I have put together a group of ten students, a very cool name is yet to be decided on, who meet, read, suggest, and promote YA books to my other students during Friday's Recreational Reading time. Basically we meet during lunch and talk books — much like a book club. Then we decided which books of the week are our absolute favorites and each student volunteers to book talk a book to my English classes on Friday before reading. It started out with "older" books and ironically my five favorites were all chosen to be book talked. Then my students started to talk about the sequels and how they were dying to get their hands on them (much like myself) and so I figured I'd attempt to receive one of these coveted ARCS and become the coolest and most awesome teacher ever. So I sent out a few emails to authors (as I have no legitimate "contacts") and low and behold (who ever thought of that term?) two books found their way to my doorstep. I'll be presenting these books to my students on Monday when we meet and I can't WAIT to see their eyes light up. The idea that publishers would send ME (of all people — according to the students) books before they even came out is a completely foreign idea to these students and I'm just exploding with excitement. I sort of feel like a cave man bringing home fire (or a wheel) for the first time.
This year we wanted to add to the excitement of Top 10 lists by making it an event! Lisa from A Life Bound By Books, Rachel from Fiktshun & Jaime & Patricia from Two Chicks on Books and and I are hosting a top 10 week where everyone can join the fun!
