Review: Holy buttered biscuits and gravy this book was AWESOME! You may ask"but isn't this just like any other book where a girl sees ghosts?"… to which I reply"HECK NO! Are you crazy?!?!" Hourglass was fabulous from start to finish. The writing, the characters, the boyssss *swoon*, the setting… all magical!
Emerson can see spirits and even ghostly scenes but her ability turns out to be much more than that. Her brother hires someone to help her deal with what's happening to her. That happens to be Michael.ahhh… Michael. Micheal works for the Hourglass and he knows all about what Emerson can do, because he can do it too. They have an instant, sizzling connection that Michael can't fight off. Don't fight Michael, just give in!
First, I gotta say that Emerson was one of the best characters ever! Not only was she sweet and caring, but she was strong, brave, and protective of her friends and family. Loved her! I can't picture anyone else as the main character of this story. I don't know how Myra did it but her characters just jumped right out of the page and into my heart. They seemed so real. I never questioned anything about their personality. Even the"not so nice" people were written perfectly.
Michael made me giggle, a lot. Some of his interactions with Emerson were hilarious. It seemed that poor Emerson got into some sticky situations but Michael was always there to help her out. It was easy to see how passionate Michael was about his work, friends, and especially Emerson.
The southern aspects of Emerson's personality and the setting were wonderful to see. Maybe it's where I live in Tennessee too but I cracked up so many times after reading things Emerson did or said. Certain situations really brought out the"southern" in her.
The plot was full of twists and turns and other things I would have never expected. There's also a ton of mystery and action. The side characters made everything about this book seem whole and complete. One of my favorites would have to be Kaleb *swoon*. Kaleb had this bad-boy personality in some ways, but in other ways he was just someone going through a lot of pain. Even with that, I couldn't help but smile every time he spoke. Kaleb and Emerson had an interesting love/hate/love relationship. Kaleb is exactly the type of male character I simply can't resist!
Hourglass was a wild ride through a mysterious plot that readers can't help but enjoy. The multidimensional characters, unique twists, and witty dialogue make this the perfect paranormal read! I can't wait to see what happens next.

Yesterday I went to my first ever book signing. It was in Knoxville at Union Ave Books and was part of the Ash to Nash tour. It was truly a blast! Beth Revis, Myra McEntire, Victoria Schwab, and Alan Gratz were hilarious!
They told stories about their publishing journeys, shared writing tips, and mentioned what is coming up next for them.

It's easy to see that they are all having a blast on this tour and I was so excited that they could come to my area. I wish more authors would stop by!

I got a new car!! It's a 2011 Kia Soul (Alien color!) and I absolutely love it. Technically this is my very first car that's just for me (okay.me and my 3 year old, ha!) But if you are thinking"ya know, this car makes me think of a hamster" you would be correct! It is the car that was featured on the VMAs and I adore their commercial!

Today is the release day for The Near Witch and I have the wonderful Victoria Schwab here today to talk about the book.
I am super excited to talk to her because I will be meeting her on August 7th in Knoxville as part of the Ash to Nash tour!
1. You have explored quite a few college majors and careers. Can you tell us a little about what you learned from your experiences? --I learned that physics wasn't for me, drama had too much drama, art history was too quiet to be a morning class, every religion has its own gorgeous stories, the majority of creative writing students are not very creative when it comes to writing (and goodness help you if you want to be a PUBLISHED one *cough*sellout*cough*), film doesn't give you credit for enjoying the films too much to take notes, and art students have perfected a method of staying up all night using only a bag of skittles.
2. How did you first get into writing? --By writing really, really bad poetry. And then by writing slightly better poetry. By the time I decided to try writing a book, I had NO idea what I was doing, but I knew I could assemble words in lovely ways. Next I had to learn structure. That took a little while and a good deal of rejection. Thankfully.
3. What has been the most surprising thing to happen to you since The Near Witch started grabbing everyone's attention? --I have two favorites. One is authors I adore/admire knowing that I even exist, let alone several of them having read (and enjoyed!!) NW. That's just beyond surreal and surprising. The second was hearing from a friend that their non-reader friend suggested my book to her, after the non-reader's mother, a high-school teacher, had mentioned it to her, after having overheard students in her hall talking about books they wanted to read that summer. That was pretty dang cool.
4. If you could tell people one thing about The Near Witch, what would it be? --It's a fairy tale. And it's written that way. It's meant to be airy, and sparse, a bit blurred at the edges, a window into a world, rather than a door. Go in knowing that.
5. You will be going on tour with Beth Revis and Myra McEntire soon. What crazy things do you all have planned? --OH THE ANTICS. There are planned ones, and ones that we couldn't plan if we tried. But rest assured, there will be lots of laughing.We are three loud and largely inappropriate people.

It's that time again! I'm really excited to get an earlier start on next year's debut challenge. There are so many amazing books coming out and I can't wait to start reading them all! For 2010 I'll probably hit around 20 debut books read. That isn't too bad considering I signed up in June: ) My 2011 Debut Author Challenge Goal: 40 books!
The objective of the DAC is to read at least twelve novels from Young Adult or Middle Grade Authors. While twelve is the minimum there is no maximum limit! I encourage readers who can read more than twelve to do so!
Anyone can join. You don't have to be a blogger, and you don't have to live in the United States.
You do not have to have an blog written in English to participate.
You can join at anytime. The challenge runs from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011.
Qualifying books:
Books must be a Young Adult or Middle Grade novel.
DO NOTE: Just because a book has a teen character or is about a teen, does not mean that it is necessarily a Young Adult novel.
This must be the authors debut with a release date in 2011. They cannot have a prior middle grade or young adult title released.
If an author has a previous novel published under adult fiction/nonfiction or children's fiction/nonfiction, they can still qualify for the challenge if they are releasing their YA or MG debut.
More challenge guidelines:
Novels must be read between January 1, 2011- December 31, 2011. That means, those of you that have read arc forms of the titles early will not be able to count those toward your challenge totals.
You can use debuts from other countries, but the novel cannot be previously released in your county. (I explain this a little bit more in the FAQ section, if you want to check that out!)

Why: Really loved A Need So Beautiful and the interesting plot in this series. It was another book that left me with a ton of questions that I gotta know the answers to! Plus, Harlin *swoon*. Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini HarperCollins (May 31st, 2011) Why: I fell in love with this cover from day one and it is another one you have to see in person. Why: This cover screams"powerful" to me and that perfectly describes this book. I can't imagine a better cover for this title. Brightest Kind of Darkness by P.T. Michelle Patrice Michelle (June 27th, 2011) Why: Isn't this so pretty? Everything about this cover drew me in — the colors, the trees, the girl, the dress — all perfect! Plus I really think it fits the vibe of the book. Love Story by Janenifer Echols MTV Books (July 19th, 2011) Why: I admit it, I'm a hopeless romantic. If a guy and girl are on a cover being all"cutie patootie" together, it grabs my heart. Wither by Lauren DeStefano Simon & Schuster (March 22nd, 2011) Why: The detail work that went into this cover is outstanding. Each part has significance to the story (which is a big perk to me) and it just gave off that"dystopian" look. Another book you gotta make sure to see in person! Falling Under by Gwen Hayes New American Library (March 1st, 2011) Why: Beautiful!! I never thought I'd love a cover that was mostly black with just a touch of color, but wow, this one is perfect! The girl is gorgeous (and that hair, OMG), and the black flowers really make the red dress pop out. She never backed down from a challenge and really showed how girls can do absolutely anything.Read My ReviewAdd it to GoodreadsSummary: What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Who: Alex Why: Because, yet again, Janenifer really knows how to create characters! Alex has had a difficult time dealing the various obstacles that arise but she keeps pushing through. She has a lot of qualities I think many people would love to possess. Read My Review Add it to Goodreads Summary: The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
Forgotten by Cat Patrick Little, Brown (June 7th, 2011) Who: London Why: London had to go through a lot and she never backed down. She's sweet and smart, and she deals with her memory problems in the best way she can. In the morning, all she can"remember" are events from her future.
